Dr. Mattia Zeni is a Senior Data Scientist at TomTom in the Navigation product unit. He has been a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science of the University of Trento, where he has also been a teaching assistant. He received his Ph.D. in 2017 from the University of Trento and his work focused on creating theories and systems aimed at giving an AI the ability to understand the user context automatically and react accordingly, leveraging on the semantic analysis of personal big data collected from the user’s mobile devices in combination with machine learning techniques. He received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in telecommunication engineering from University of Trento, Italy, in 2010 and 2013, respectively. He was a Junior Research Engineering at the Center for Research and Telecommunication Experimentation for Networked Communities in 2013. He was a Research Scientist at IBM Research in Nairobi, in 2015 where he was a solution architect for systems aimed at managing and analyzing big data. He has been working on multiple European projects in the last years (FP7 Social-IST, FP7 Smart Society) and he is currently WP leader in the Qrowd H2020 project. He is also an experienced software developer.
